Launch A Personal Brand Website (that kicks ass)

(psst, don’t forget to pin this for later!)

Your personal brand wants a home. A creative hub with a custom domain. A place you own, outside the feed and moody algorithms.

So welcome to here. This is how to build your personal brand website (and why you totally should).

Think of your website like your digital address. A place your brand can get mail, invite guests and sleep. A website makes you more serious.

So let’s just get right to it then!

Psst, quick heads up that some links in this post may be affiliate links. This is at no extra cost to you, but helps me keep the lights on. Thanks for your support!

    What’s A Personal Brand Website?

A personal brand website is your home base that represents how you think, what you care about or value and what you do.

Compared to a business website, which is more conversion-focused around products or services.

A personal brand website is about a human and their universe; it’s like the welcome center of your storyworld.

Your personal brand orbit is organized here, with links out to the constellation of projects and assets you have happening.

Why Having a Personal Brand Website Is a Good Move

When you have a website, you’re not at the mercy of a third-party platform for reach.

On social media, you don’t own your followers or their data (as grimy as that sounds…).

So if your account gets banned, hacked or you just lose your reach because of an algorithm update, you’re out of luck.

Plus, audiences sometimes move to different platforms.

There’s risk if you put all your brand eggs into one (volatile) basket.

When you have a website though, you’re able to collect emails and visitor data (for deeper insights and better conversions) and cushion your brand during industry disruptions (like AI).

Plus, you just look way more professional.

How to Launch Your Personal Brand Website (5 steps)

    Choose A Good Website Builder

There are tons of website builders and most of them offer similar core features (e-commerce, blogging, hosting, security, some level of AI integration…).

So choosing the right option comes down to personal preference.

But here’s a shortlist of my personal favorite personal brand website builders:

    • Squarespace

      • ✅ Full website management ecosystem

      • ✅ Good reputation; active online community

      • ❌ More expensive; closed ecosystem

    • Pixpa

      • ✅ Tons of features for a great price

      • ✅ Catered to creatives

      • ❌ Less popular

    • Framer

      • ✅ Advanced design options

      • ✅ Perfect for graphic designers

      • ✅ Engaged community

      • ❌ Learning curve for beginners

    • Format

      • ✅ Caters to creatives

      • ✅ Lightroom integration for photographers

      • ✅ Affordable

      • ❌ Less design features compared to other options

    • Readymag

      • ✅ High-quality, flexible design options

      • ✅ Best for simple portfolio/presentation sites or magazine projects

      • ❌ No blogging option

    • Strikingly

      • ✅ Extremely simple to use

      • ✅ Affordable

      • ❌ Very basic; less popular

    • WordPress

      • ✅ Great for blogging and site customization

      • ❌ Learning curve; technical site setup and management

    • Build your own site

      • ✅ Complete design flexibility

      • ✅ You can do it for free (only paying the yearly fee for your custom domain)

      • ✅ Sites like Lovable, v0 or Replit make it easy (thank you, vibe coding)

      • ❌ Technical; not ideal if you’re a beginner and plan on advanced features like memberships, selling or blogging

    Get A Custom Domain

Technically, you can host your website for free on a lot of website building platforms. But this isn’t ideal for building long-term authority, trust and brand.

So I definitely recommend paying for a starter plan and grabbing a custom domain.

This way, you can get a professional email too (yourname@yourdomain.com), which looks way better than a free gmail account.

Some website builders have built-in domain management (like Squarespace). Otherwise, you can buy one through a registrar like GoDaddy (who I also use).

And the last thing to think about is your actual domain name.

If you’re a personal brand, this is probably your own name or whatever brand persona you create under. If you find an exact match for that domain, buy it.

Otherwise, you can add filler words (like “the” or “its”).

.com is most common. But other TLDs (top-level domains) are popular too——like .me, .xyz or .dev (if you’re a developer).

TIP: if your website builder has domain buying, consider buying it there. Otherwise, you might need to pay the yearly domain fee twice. For example, I bought a domain on GoDaddy but then had to pay Squarespace also when transferring it to my account.

    Build Your Site

A personal website can be anything you want. For me, it’s more like a fun creative project.

You can design your site to be a digital zine, a simple landing page or a full blog. You can even make an interactive video-game style site if you’re good at development or have the budget.

A lot of personal brands use their site to grow their community, increases newsletter signups, sell products, share their work/portfolio or start a blog (especially good for building niche authority and showing up in AI).

Or you can just use it as a static professional hub with links to your socials and core assets.

Once you design things well enough, connect to a custom domain and set up your email, you can also index your site into Google (so you show up in search).

Just don’t worry about being perfect or finding some “final” version. You’ll probably never stop tweaking, updating and adding stuff to your site.

    Brand Your Site

Now for the fun part! I love creative branding (it’s a core pillar for this site, after all). It’s fun, creative and expressive.

Branding your site means adding your voice, style, taste and vibe to everything.

We’re talking font choices, color palette, images and logo. The stuff that makes your site truly yours.

This is where choosing a good website builder (with decent design flexibility) comes in handy. You want enough options to express yourself authentically, so you don’t feel boxed into some basic template.

Here’s that curated list of my favorite website builders again if you’re unsure who to go with.

Branding takes clarity and actually doing stuff. I’ve overthought my brand image and identity so much in the past; but inevitably, once I started actually creating, things changed.

So if you’re not sure who you are quite yet, just start making stuff, sharing things and building an audience. Clarity comes after action.

Alright, that’s all I’ve got for you here.

Share your personal brand websites below! I’d love to check them out :)
