Create a Personal Brand Mood Board (do it)

A collage mood board of the author's vibe with text "curate your vibe"

I love mood curation. And not just in the computer, but in my actual 3D life too (lifestyle design). So when it comes to branding, I like to visualize things.

For clarity and inspiration, I have a personal brand mood board. This is a collection of visuals, quotes, ideas and people or brands who inspire me.

Mood boarding is perfect for visual learners and scrapbookers at heart.

So if you’re keen to implement one in your own work, you’re in the right place. This is my quick guide.

Let’s get to it!

What’s a Personal Brand Mood Board?

A personal brand mood board is a curated collection of images, videos, fonts, ideas and people or brands who inspire you in some creative way.

It’s a little different from a general lifestyle mood board since it’s creative focused with the intent of brand growth (usually online).

(then again, lifestyle branding is my approach to personal branding)

    Why Should I?

    • It’s creative and fun

    • Visualize your identity

    • Clarify your aesthetics

    • Organize your inspiration

    • It’s a form of self reflection

    • Discover patterns and themes

    • Make more aligned creative decisions

    Choose a Mood Board Hub

Your brand mood board needs a home. So you’ll need to choose which platform you want to host your stuff on.

There are tons of mood board tools out there and honestly, they all work fine. So whichever platform you like the best is probably the best one to use.

But here are some popular choices:

    • Notion

    • Pinterest

    • Milanote

    • Miro

    • Canva

    • Make your own hub with a vibe coding tool like Lovable or Replit (for the industrious)

    Collect Everything That Inspires You

Fashion, food, fonts, people, places…anything that inspires you (even if it feels random or out of place) deserves space.

Because your brand should reflect your truest self——this is my lifestyle approach to personal branding.

So go nuts. Collect it all (you can always delete it later).

Turn Your Mood Board Into Action

The purpose of a mood board is to inspire and guide your brand development. It’s not for copying.

So after you start collecting a decent amount of assets, it’s time to put them to work.

Look for patterns and throughlines. From the things you’ve collected, try to define your unique style and visual branding.

Organize things into buckets for extra clarity.

Basically, don’t let your kick-ass ideas and inspiring moments turn into digital dust. Get the insights and then use them in your work or brand.

(don’t worry, I’m working on this part too)

    Keep It Active

This thing about clarity is it’s never done. There’s always another level to unlock.

As soon as I think I under something (like myself), I notice a smudge in the corner or another layer behind the proverbial glass that’s still unseen.

It’s important to stay aware of this. Keep creating and noticing how you further develop and find and refine your voice.

Personal brand building is more like self development in this way.

But that’s all I’ve got for this one. So what’s your brand mood board vibe like? (lemme know below)

    Otherwise, later ✌️
